Tunnel of Oppression
Friday, November 6 from 10 am to 7 pm & Saturday, November 7 from 10 am to 5 pm in the Hatch Ballroom
The Tunnel of Oppression project is a visual, theatrical and interactive effort to raise consciousness of the various forms of oppression pertuated in our collective society. This project is an attempt to provoke dialogue and inspire action on our campus and beyond the gates. The project will consist of scenes that vividly represent various forms of injustices experienced because of racism, anti-Semitism, homophobia, classism, sexism, ageism, ableism, and all other forms of discrimination. As a part of our commitment to fight oppression, we present this project as a way to create conversation, challenge ourselves, and draw visibility to those on campus who are actively committed to social justice causes. The idea is to create an environment where Tunnel participants can "walk a mile" om another person's shoes and feel things they might not have realized exist.
Participants will be taken through with guides and moved along to scene after scene acted by actors. After each presentation, participants will be able to discuss the program's content in groups staffed by student leaders, administrators, and counselors. We hope that the dialogue inspired by this event will promote a campus-wide commitment to challenging oppression in all its forms and intersedtions.
Pointers to Remember:
All tours will leave on time so please make sure you arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your appointment so that you can have a chance to read and sign the waiver and be oriented by your guide. Participants who arrive late and miss their appointment can wait for the next available spot, however a tour cannot be gauranteed as the next tour may be full.
